Is web design right for your business?

5 Reasons Your Small Business Needs A Website

It can make you money

A website can be an excellent source of revenue for your business; through direct sales, referrals or marketing, a website takes a small business to a whole new level.

A website is always open, ready to share your message with the world and help customers learn, trust and contact you. Depending on your business model, a website can sell your goods and services, manage inventory, bookings, staffing and more, making you money all while saving you time.

It’s a new market

A website opens your business to a world of potential customers. Literally. The reach of a website is simply unmatched when compared to traditional marketing methods. The internet is the great equaliser; larger competitors that you may struggle to compete within other methods are often much easier to outcompete with online.

It will boost credibility

84% of people believe a website makes a business more credible. This is no surprise when you consider that every year, more and more businesses join the online world. Having a website says many things: You have nothing to hide, you like your business and its ideas, and if the need arises, you are always easy to contact.

Customers can decide if your product is the right one for them and you can show off your achievements, testimonials and reviews to further establish trust and build credibility.

It’s great for marketing your small business

Establish your brand with a website. A website is your own place to share your message with the world, from your logo to your philosophy and everything in between, a website allows you to establish the image of your business that you want it to have.

A website is also the desired endpoint of conversions, ad campaigns and sales funnels. If a business has any interests in online marketing or eCommerce it is of paramount importance that it has an attractive and functional website.

It’s easy to make (and how you should make it)

It’s never been easier to get a website for your business up and running. There are several options available to those who want a website. For the dead-easy option, Google can auto-generate a basic website through your Google My Business profile (which you should definitely get if you don’t already). This website will be very basic and will be less likely to appear in search results or convert into sales than the following options.

More robust website builders allow you to customise your website more thoroughly than the former and are usually easy enough to use that you can do it yourself. These are a happy medium for many businesses. If you need more functionality than the average business website or basic eCommerce store this may not be enough for you depending on the website builder.

These website builders allow you to select templates and fill in the gaps with your information, they can look quite professional but often fall short of true professionally designed sites.

They are usually around $15 to $50 per month. We would recommend these to businesses that are just getting started or want a simple, cost-effective website and arent concerned with SEO, performance or more advanced functionality.

We like to compare web design to mechanical work; you can service your own car and if you have the time and knowledge you can save money, but if you don’t know what you’re doing you will just end up wasting more time and more money than going to the mechanic in the first place. If you arent confident that you can build a website that will fit your needs now and in the future or you value your time more than money, the next option may be for you.

Using a professional web designer is the most foolproof method of making a website. An experienced designer understands security, design and development and values the needs and goals of your business to create the optimal website for your business. A good designer will listen and understand why you want a website and design the website with you so it helps your business meet its goals. The only drawback is price, this is the most expensive option, however, the website will usually reach a larger audience, be more attractive and make back its cost in sales, conversions etc.
